The Things We Leave Unfinished

Book Tok is the reason I read this book. I have seen so much about
it online that I bought it and knew nothing about the plot or storyline. I was
sold off the fact that people were saying it was "heart-breaking" and
of course that meant I had to try it. If you like books by Lucy Score or Laura
Nowlin then you will enjoy this book.
Summary
Twenty-eight-year-old Georgia Stanton has to
start over after she gave up almost everything in a brutal divorce―the New York
house, the friends, and her pride. Now back home at her late
great-grandmother’s estate in Colorado, she finds herself face-to-face with
Noah Harrison, the bestselling author of a million books where the cover is
always people nearly kissing. He’s just as arrogant in person as in interviews,
and she’ll be damned if the good-looking writer of love stories thinks
he’s the one to finish her grandmother’s final novel…even if the publisher
swears he’s the perfect fit.
Noah is at the pinnacle of his career. With book and movie deals galore, there
isn’t much the “golden boy” of modern fiction hasn’t accomplished. But he can’t
walk away from what might be the best book of the century―the one his idol,
Scarlett Stanton, left unfinished. Coming up with a fitting ending for the
legendary author is one thing, but dealing with her beautiful, stubborn,
cynical great-granddaughter, Georgia, is quite another.
But as they read Scarlett’s words in both the manuscript and her box of
letters, they start to realize why Scarlett never finished the book―it’s based
on her real-life romance with a World War II pilot, and the ending isn’t a
happy one. Georgia knows all too well that love never works out, and while the
chemistry and connection between her and Noah is undeniable, she’s as
determined as ever to learn from her great-grandmother’s mistakes―even if it
means destroying Noah’s career.
What I Liked
I love books that have past and present storylines that
intertwine. I also am a sucker for historical fiction novels during WWII era. I
appreciated the love between Scarlett and her sister Constance and how
important family was to them at that time. I loved how Scarlett and Jameson
basically fell in love at first sight. They also lived during a horrendous time
in fear one of them could die every day, but they still had happiness in their
lives and held on to that to get through the day. I was completely thrown off
with the twist at the end, as I did not anticipate that happening.
What I Didn't Like
I felt the story started out a bit slow and took a bit to get going for me. I
also thought that the relationship between Noah and Georgia progressed too
quickly. They went from despising each other to Noah suddenly being deeply in
love with her.
Rating⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
I gave this book 4 stars on Goodreads, but it truly deserves a 4.5 star. I cannot say enough great things about this book. I was entranced by the WWII story and could not get enough of their love story. I did not give it 5 stars because of some things that I predicted to happen came true. This book definitely deserves the hype it has received and I whole-heartedly recommend it.
